Mughal Lacquer Drawers
A nest of lacquer drawers housed in a perspex box. The body of the drawers made of calamander wood with gold and black lacquer decoration. The handles are made of small silver florets attached to the front of each drawer. The gold lacquer decorations represented on the drawers are consistent with formal decoration seen on the borders of early 17th century Mughal miniatures. See the border of the miniature, Jahangir Entertains Shah 'Abbas of Iran, illustrated in Susan Stronge, Made for Mughal Emperors: Royal Treasures From Hindustan, I.B. Tauris, London, 2010, p. 138, pl. 102.
