Large Indian micromosaic box
This unusually large octagonal box on short feet has geometric design made of sadeli, micro mosaic composed of woods, metals and ivory. The top of the box has a striking central motif of a ten-sided star set within intersecting motifs of smaller stars and abstract patterns.
The four sides of the box have rectangular panels with geometric outward radiating designs, with smaller panels in between that also have geometric patterns.
The decoration on the box is masterfully executed, resulting in a symmetrical design overall. Many of the impressive designs on this box can also be found on Islamic architecture.
