Full Description

Silver Repoussé Coffee Pot

This silver coffee pot is beautifully ornamented in the Burmese style. The repoussé and chased decoration includes scenes from the Ramayana or Burmese folklore, featured within cusped medallions on each side, surrounded by further figural and floral imagery amongst dense scrollwork. The handle and the finial of the lid have each been cast in the form of a female figure, while the spout takes the form of a naga-like creature. At the base of the spout and featured centrally on all four feet are the faces of ogres. For a further example of a Burmese silver coffee pot, see the British Museum, London, Accession Number 2002,1008.1 (click here).
